You’ll find me doing the Monster Mash all week. In my sweat pants. With my unwashed hair in a messy bun balancing a glass of wine (after bedtime) and a paintbrush while noshing on pre-Halloween candy. We are well into Halloween week and we’ve been keeping busy with Halloween-themed snacks and activities. The kids are hopped up on sugar and less sleep than usual, having the time of their lives (hey, it’s a pandemic, it doesn’t take much)! Today, we kept the fun going with these fantastic monster rice krispie bars!
Open the Pantry and Grab:
- Rice Krispie bars*
- 3-4 cups white chocolate baking chips
- Food coloring
- Candy eyeballs**
- Microwave safe bowls***
- Wax paper or aluminum foil
*We used pre-packaged mini Rice Krispie bars and they worked well — use the original sized bars for larger monsters
**I love using multiple sized eyeballs like these!
***We used three bowls for the three colors we mixed — make as many/few colors you want
Steps for Monster Rice Krispie Bars
- Prepare an area with wax paper or aluminum foil and lay our the desired number of Rice Krispie bars
- Melt one cup of white chocolate chips for 1 minute in the microwave
- Stir until chocolate is melted and smooth
- Add in food coloring
- Repeat for all colors
- Dip Rice Krispie bars into the chocolate, covering the top half of the bar
- Set the bar onto the wax paper/foil and add candy eyeballs
- Let the bars set or eat immediately!
The best thing about this recipe is that it’s a chance for the kids to design to their heart’s content. Our oldest enjoyed using a toothpick to create a hairy-looking green monster and used a spoon for a drip effect to create a gloppy monster.
These were the perfect size for us, but you can also create larger monsters with the original sized Rice Krispie bars — it would be cute to make both large and mini monsters — a monster family, if you will! We loved these little bites and hope you do, too! For another fun and easy Halloween-themed snack, click here!
