Garlands, picks, swags, oh MY! It’s easy to get bogged down in all the — shall we say — fall froufrou (I went through a glittery leaf stage a few years ago — I don’t want to talk about it). But these days, I prefer a much more natural and earthy look. I want to make creating a natural fall look easy and I’ve sourced a few great options for dried florals this season!
Fall. It’s my favorite. Come August I’m ready to pull on my knee-highs, wrap a scarf around my neck, and zippity-doo-dah my way over a path of crunchy leaves (pumpkin spice in hand, duh).
That’s because there is SO much to LOVE about fall. In Iowa, the leaves begin to turn around the beginning of October just as the weather begins to cool. The cooler temps along with the changing colors are the perfect inspiration to bring the feeling of Autumn inside.
The goal is to blend the natural world with the interior world. Bring the outdoors, in. This is an area of expertise for me. Living on an acreage, I can’t tell you how many times my kiddos have “helped” bring the outdoors in to our home. Pebbles, rocks, bugs, frogs, toads, skulls, dirt, and poop (you read that right) are just a few examples of what I’ve found around the house. Luckily, there are numerous ways to blend nature with your interior space that do not involve poop. I’ve found that my preference this season has been to add as many dried florals into my arrangements as possible.
Where to find the best dried or natural fall florals
If you live anywhere where the seasons are a-changing, you can absolutely use what you can find in your own neighborhood. Seriously — take a walk through the park, go on a hike, or scavenge the yard for leaves, twigs, and grasses. We experienced a particularly bad wind storm earlier this season and I was able to salvage several intact oak branches that I’ve used as filler.
Using what’s around you is resourceful, do it when you can! If that’s impractical or if you live where fall foilage is in short supply, I’ve included and linked a few of my favorite online sources below to make it easy to create a natural fall look. Enjoy and let me know ways that you’ve brought the indoors into your space!
Enjoy sprucing up those florals, friends! Be well —
